Alia Bhatt is making a surprising move into horror. After attending the intimate wedding of her friend, actress Akansha Ranjan, to filmmaker Sharan Sharma, the actor has now signed on for a horror fantasy sequel.
According to Rediff, Alia has joined the cast of Tumbbad 2, a horror fantasy sequel starring Sohum Shah. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will also co-star in the film.
What is Tumbbad 2 About?
Tumbbad 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2018 horror film Tumbbad. The original film, set in a remote Indian village, told a dark mythological story about greed and a hidden treasure. The sequel is directed by Adesh Prasad, who co-directed the first film alongside Rahi Anil Barve.
Alia's move into horror comes right after her role in the YRF actioner Alpha. This marks a clear shift in her career choices, moving from action to the horror genre.
Alia's Recent Wedding Appearance
Before announcing this new project, Alia was seen celebrating the wedding of her friend, actress Akansha Ranjan, to filmmaker Sharan Sharma. The wedding was an intimate affair, and Alia shared a photo dump from the event on social media.
As noted by Rediff Movies on X, "After celebrating Akansha Ranjan's wedding, @aliaa08 is set to enter horror with #Tumbbad2, alongside @s0humshah and #NawazuddinSiddiqui."
Our Take: A Bold Move for Alia Bhatt
In our view, Alia Bhatt stepping into horror is a smart career move. She has already proven herself in drama, romance, and action. Trying horror shows she is not afraid to take risks. Tumbbad was a unique film that earned praise for its storytelling and visuals. Joining its sequel could give Alia a chance to work in a genre that is rarely explored by mainstream Bollywood actors. This could be a win for both her and the film.
