The warm spell gripping the Chandigarh tricity is nearing its peak, with temperatures expected to ease from the weekend. On Tuesday, Chandigarh recorded the third warmest day across Punjab and Haryana, but the region escaped another yellow alert without any major impact.

Chandigarh temperature hits 36.9°C as warm spell continues

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh's maximum temperature settled at 36.9°C on Tuesday. This was down by 1.1 degrees from the previous day but still among the highest temperatures recorded in the region. Only Rohtak in Haryana, at 37.6°C, and Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, at 37.2°C, registered higher daytime temperatures.

Night temperatures rise but remain below normal

Chandigarh and Mohali also witnessed a gradual rise in night temperatures. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh increased by 0.3 degrees to 24.5°C, while Mohali saw a rise of 0.7 degrees to 25.9°C. Despite this uptick, the mercury remained 2 degrees below normal, indicating that nights continue to offer some relief.

Yellow alert passes without significant impact in tricity

Weather conditions remained largely uneventful in the tricity, with yet another yellow alert passing without any significant impact. The IMD had issued the alert, but the tricity escaped the worst of the heat, as temperatures did not reach dangerous levels.

Our Take: Relief in sight as weekend approaches

The warm spell has been noticeable, but the fact that night temperatures remain below normal is a positive sign. The IMD's prediction that temperatures will ease from the weekend should bring some comfort to residents. In our view, the tricity has been fortunate to escape the more severe heat seen in other parts of the region. However, it is wise to stay cautious and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun until the heat fully subsides.
