Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan has spoken openly about a major crisis that hit Drishyam The Conclusion before filming even began. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, he recalled how actor Akshaye Khanna walked out of the film just days before the shoot was supposed to start.
Khan wrote the dialogues for the film and is also one of its screenplay writers and lyricists. He described the moment the team got the news in very direct words.
Akshaye Khanna's Exit Left the Team Shocked
According to Khan, the exit happened seven or eight days before the shoot was to begin. The team was not prepared for it at all.
"Seven or eight days before the shoot was to start, he walked out of the film. When he left, hum log pe bomb phoota tha!" — Aamil Keeyan Khan
The problem was bigger than just finding a new actor. Khan explained that the dates of everyone involved were already locked. On top of that, a new character had to be introduced into the story. The team had no choice but to adjust, because there was no time left.
Khan said the writers had to change several scenes in both the first half and the second half of the film. The team worked day and night during that period to fix everything in time.
Jaideep Ahlawat Stepped In as Replacement
Jaideep Ahlawat then stepped into the role, which gave the makers much-needed relief. His entry solved the immediate casting problem, but the writing team still had to rework large portions of the script to fit the change.
The film had been in the news even before it went on floors, mainly because of this last-minute exit. Khan's account now confirms just how close the production came to serious trouble.
Abhishek Pathak Stayed Calm Under Pressure
Khan also praised director Abhishek Pathak for how he handled the situation. According to Khan, any other director would have panicked, but Pathak remained calm through the crisis.
That calm approach mattered, because the team was racing against locked dates and a fixed start of shooting. A panicked reaction at that point could have made things worse for everyone involved.
Our Take: A Last-Minute Exit That Tested the Whole Team
To put it plainly, this story shows how fragile film production schedules can be. One actor walking out days before shooting can shake up an entire crew, especially when dates are locked and scenes are already planned.
In our view, Khan's account is a rare honest look at what happens behind the scenes when things go wrong. Most film teams never talk about these moments publicly. Khan not only shared what happened, but also gave credit where it was due — to Jaideep Ahlawat for stepping in, and to Abhishek Pathak for keeping the team steady.
For fans of Drishyam The Conclusion, this adds a new layer to the film. What they see on screen was built under real pressure, with rewritten scenes and a replacement actor stepping in at the last moment. That context makes the final product worth a second look.
The bigger lesson here is simple. Films are not just about what happens on camera. They are also about how a team responds when a plan falls apart. In this case, the team held together, and that is why the film made it to the screen at all.
