The controversy around Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj is growing. The film was reportedly dropped last weekend and then pulled out again within 48 hours. Now, actress Gul Panag has spoken out in support of the project.
Gul Panag speaks out on Satluj controversy
Gul Panag, who is from Punjab, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her views. She said that banning films about difficult chapters of history is not the right approach.
According to Moneycontrol, Panag wrote: "Banning it is always counter productive. But don't assume Punjab's hard-won rejection of separatism is so fragile that a film can reverse it!!"
Why Gul Panag supports the film
The actress reflected on her own experiences growing up in Punjab during a turbulent period. She believes that stories rooted in history should not be silenced. Instead, they should be seen and discussed.
According to Times Now, Panag said she grew up in Punjab during the brutal years of militancy. She emphasized that films exploring such subjects deserve to be released rather than banned.
Our Take: Banning films does not solve problems
In our view, Gul Panag makes a strong point. Banning a film does not erase history. It often creates more curiosity and controversy. Punjab has moved past its difficult years, and a film cannot undo that progress. The better approach is to let people watch, discuss, and form their own opinions. Artistic freedom matters, and silencing stories does not help anyone.
