A major scandal has hit the Haryana Police after 160 cases of seized liquor allegedly vanished from the Fatehabad Sadar police station's 'malkhana' (storehouse). In response, the entire staff of the station has been transferred and the Station House Officer (SHO) has been booked.
Massive Administrative Shake-Up After Liquor Disappears
The unprecedented action came after an inquiry found a huge mismatch between official records and the liquor stock kept in police custody. According to The Tribune, a total of 49 personnel, including the SHO, have been removed from the police station. This is being described as one of the biggest administrative shake-ups in recent years in the district.
How the Case Came to Light
The case first reached the DGP's office through a complaint. It was later forwarded to Fatehabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikita Khattar for further investigation. ASP Divyanshi Singla also played a role in the proceedings.

Context: A Second Scandal in Haryana Police
This incident comes days after the Sirsa opium controversy, which also triggered action against several police personnel. The Fatehabad case adds to the growing scrutiny of police conduct in the state.
Our Take: Accountability Must Be Swift and Transparent
In our view, this is a serious breach of trust. When seized evidence — especially liquor, which is often central to criminal cases — goes missing from a police station, it raises questions about the integrity of the entire system. The swift transfer of 49 personnel is a strong signal, but it must be followed by a thorough investigation and, if needed, criminal prosecution. The public needs to know that law enforcement is accountable, and this action is a step in the right direction. However, it should not stop here. The Haryana Police must ensure that such lapses do not become a pattern.
