A landslide on the Shimla-Mataur National Highway (NH-205) has completely blocked the road, disrupting traffic movement and causing major inconvenience to commuters. The incident occurred near Namhol in Bilaspur district, where a large amount of debris fell onto the highway.
The landslide struck the road, leaving vehicles stranded on both ends of the highway. Commuters faced significant delays as the route was rendered impassable.
Police and district administration teams quickly reached the spot to assess the situation. In response, traffic has been diverted to alternate routes to ease the congestion.
Commuters travelling to and from Shimla from the Bilaspur and Hamirpur side have been advised to use the Brahmpukhar-Jukhala-Jabbal Bridge-Kotla-Kharsi-Dailamod road. For those travelling from Shimla to Mandi, a separate alternate route has been recommended by the police.
This incident is a stark reminder of how vulnerable mountain highways are to landslides, especially during periods of rain or unstable weather. While the authorities have acted swiftly to divert traffic, the disruption highlights the need for better monitoring and preventive measures on key routes like NH-205. Commuters should always check road conditions before travelling in hilly areas and follow official diversion advisories to avoid getting stuck.
