Panchkula was the coolest place in the Tricity and among the coolest in the wider Punjab-Haryana region on Saturday. At the same time, Mohali recorded the highest minimum temperature in Punjab, making it the warmest spot in the Tricity at night.
The yellow alert issued for thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds had no reported impact in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula till the filing of the report. So while the warning was in place, residents did not face the kind of weather the alert had flagged.
Panchkula Leads the Cool Spell in Tricity
Panchkula recorded a maximum temperature of 29.6°C. This was the lowest maximum in Haryana and the second-lowest in the Punjab-Haryana region, behind only Thein Dam in Pathankot district.
Overcast skies and cool breezes kept conditions comfortable across the Tricity. Both day and night temperatures dipped marginally.
Mohali Warmest at Night, Night Temperatures Above Normal
Mohali stood out for its night weather. It recorded the highest minimum temperature in Punjab and the second-highest in the region after Rohtak.
Night temperatures continued to remain above normal in Chandigarh and Mohali. This means that even as the days stayed pleasant, the nights did not cool down as much as they usually would.
- Panchkula maximum: 29.6°C — lowest in Haryana
- Panchkula's regional rank: second-lowest in Punjab-Haryana after Thein Dam, Pathankot district
- Mohali: highest minimum temperature in Punjab, second-highest in the region after Rohtak
- Yellow alert: thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds — no reported impact in the Tricity
- Night temperatures: above normal in Chandigarh and Mohali
Why the Yellow Alert Made No Difference
The yellow alert was meant to warn of thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds. But in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, no impact was reported till the filing of the report.
This is not unusual. A yellow alert is the lowest level of weather warning. It asks people to stay updated and be cautious, but it does not mean severe weather will definitely hit every area under it. In this case, the Tricity largely escaped the conditions the alert had flagged.
Our Take: A Pleasant Day, but Nights Tell a Different Story
To put it plainly, this is a mixed weather picture for the Tricity. Panchkula had the most comfortable day, with a maximum of just 29.6°C. That is genuinely cool for the region.
But the night data is the part readers should pay attention to. Mohali had the highest minimum temperature in Punjab, and nights stayed above normal in both Chandigarh and Mohali. In our view, this is the real story here. Pleasant days can hide the fact that nights are not cooling down the way they should.
For residents, the practical takeaway is simple. Do not assume that a cool, overcast day means a comfortable night. If you live in Mohali or Chandigarh, keep light bedding and ventilation in mind, because the nights are running warmer than normal.
As for the yellow alert, it came and went without any reported impact. That is good news. But it also shows why alerts should be read as warnings to prepare, not as guarantees of what the weather will actually do.
