Panchkula Police have arrested 179 drug peddlers in 102 cases in 2026 so far, and seized narcotics worth Rs 26.20 crore. That is nearly six times the Rs 4.54 crore worth of drugs seized during the corresponding period last year.

The numbers were shared by Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain. Of the 179 arrested, 71 are suppliers — the people who bring drugs into the district rather than just sell them at the street level.

What Panchkula Police Seized in 2026

The biggest single item by value is heroin. Police seized 11 kg 494 gm of heroin worth Rs 22.98 crore. That one drug alone accounts for most of the total Rs 26.20 crore haul.

The full list of seizures shared by the Commissioner of Police is:

  • Heroin — 11 kg 494 gm, worth Rs 22.98 crore
  • Opium — 16 kg 990 gm, worth Rs 84.95 lakh
  • Cocaine — 106 gm, worth Rs 53 lakh
  • Tablets — 40,200 tablets, worth Rs 1.60 crore
  • Charas — 4 kg 611 gm
  • Poppy husk — 49 kg 773 gm
  • Ganja — 7 kg 341 gm

Where the Arrested Peddlers Come From

DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh said Punjab accounts for the highest number of arrests, with 71 accused. The remaining 106 are from Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

Two foreign nationals have also been arrested in these cases. The spread of arrests across seven states and two foreign nationals shows this is not a local problem — the supply chain reaches well beyond Panchkula's borders.

Why the Six-Fold Jump Matters

A jump from Rs 4.54 crore to Rs 26.20 crore in a single year is not a small change. It can mean two things, and both are worth paying attention to.

One reading is that police are simply catching more. More cases, more arrests, more seizures — that is better policing on paper. The 71 suppliers arrested suggest the police are going after the supply chain, not just the small sellers.

The other reading is more worrying. If police are seizing six times more drugs, it is possible that six times more drugs are actually flowing into the district. Seizures usually reflect what is available in the market, not just how well the police are working.

Our Take: A Bigger Haul Is Not Always a Bigger Win

To put it plainly, the Panchkula Police deserve credit for the numbers. Arresting 179 people, including 71 suppliers, and pulling in drugs worth Rs 26.20 crore is serious work. Going after suppliers instead of only street-level sellers is the right approach.

But readers should not read this as a simple success story. A six-fold rise in seizures in one year is a warning sign as much as a trophy. It suggests the drug network feeding Panchkula has grown, and that Punjab remains a major source route.

In our view, the real test is what happens next. If the same numbers keep climbing year after year, arrests alone will not fix the problem. The police need to break the supply chain at its source — and that means coordination with Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and the other states named in these cases.

For now, the message to residents is mixed. The police are active and catching more. But the drugs are also clearly still coming in.
