Rohtak police have arrested a youth in connection with the firing at the office of Congress MLA Balram Dangi in Meham town. The arrest came after an encounter between the accused and the Crime Branch Meham team near Bainsi village, just 24 hours after the incident.
The accused has been identified as Aman, a resident of Lakhan Majra. During the exchange of fire, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was admitted to PGIMS Rohtak for treatment. Police have recovered a country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in the crime from his possession.
Thailand-Based Gangster Link Emerges in Investigation
According to police, preliminary investigation has revealed a significant connection. The accused was in contact with a dreaded gangster who fled to Thailand in July 2025. This gangster, who is facing around 30 criminal cases, has been operating criminal activities from abroad.
Police have also identified another person involved in the firing incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the conspiracy and the roles of all individuals involved.
Our Take: Swift Police Action Sends Strong Message
In our view, the quick resolution of this case within 24 hours demonstrates effective policing. The arrest following an encounter and the recovery of the weapon show that law enforcement is taking attacks on public representatives seriously.
The emergence of a Thailand-based gangster link is concerning. It highlights how criminals are using international borders to evade justice while continuing to orchestrate crimes from abroad. This case should serve as a reminder that police need better coordination with international agencies to track such fugitives.
However, the fact that a gangster with 30 criminal cases could flee the country and continue operations raises questions about how such individuals manage to escape surveillance. Stronger monitoring mechanisms are clearly needed.
