Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has broken his silence on being credited as ‘Dharmendra’s son’ in his upcoming film Ikka. The actor made a surprise appearance at the end of a media screening of the film at a preview theatre in Mumbai, where he spoke briefly with journalists.
When asked about the credit, Sunny Deol said, “Wherever I go, that’s what people say, ‘Dharmendra ka beta hai’.” He acknowledged that the label is something he hears frequently, whether in public or in professional settings.
Sunny Deol on His Role in Ikka and Memories of Damini
In Ikka, Sunny Deol plays a feisty lawyer, a role that immediately reminded many of his iconic performance in the 1993 film Damini. Speaking about the character, Sunny Deol said, “I hadn’t got a chance to do a character like this for a long time. Finally, I got a chance when Netflix offered me the film.”
Sunny Deol on Co-Star Akshaye Khanna
Sunny Deol also shared his thoughts on working with co-star Akshaye Khanna, whom he previously worked with in the 1997 war film Border. He said, “We had worked together in Border and he’s a gem of a guy. Since that time, we have a great tuning. Also, he is Vinod ji’s (Vinod Khanna) son. So, the bonding is even more.”
Ikka Lacks Action Sequences
Known for his powerful action scenes, Sunny Deol noted that Ikka does not feature such sequences. He said, “No, the…” before trailing off, indicating that the film focuses more on dialogue and courtroom drama rather than physical action.
Our Take: Acknowledging a Legacy Without Shying Away
Sunny Deol’s response to being called ‘Dharmendra’s son’ is refreshingly honest. Instead of dismissing the label, he accepts it as a natural part of his identity. This shows a mature understanding of his place in Bollywood — he is both his own star and the son of a legend. With Ikka, he seems ready to remind audiences of his acting range, stepping into a role that relies on dialogue and emotion rather than just action.
