Actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after three rounds were fired at him in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday. The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents in which Bollywood personalities or their homes and offices have been targeted.
The attack on Shroff follows two other high-profile shootings connected to the film industry — one outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence and another outside actor Salman Khan's home. Together, these incidents point to a pattern of violence aimed at some of Bollywood's biggest names.
Tiger Shroff Shooting in Juhu: What Happened
Three rounds were fired at Tiger Shroff in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday. The actor was not hurt in the incident. Shroff is one of the well-known action stars in Bollywood, and the shooting took place in the same Juhu neighbourhood where another film figure was targeted earlier this year.
Rohit Shetty and Salman Khan: Earlier Shooting Incidents
The Shroff incident is not the first of its kind this year. In February this year, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Juhu. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for that shooting.
Before that, in April 2024, two men on a motorcycle fired five rounds outside actor Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai's Bandra area. That attack also drew national attention and raised questions about the security of film celebrities in the city.
- Tiger Shroff — three rounds fired at him in Juhu, escaped unhurt
- Rohit Shetty — five rounds fired outside his Juhu residence in February this year; Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility
- Salman Khan — five rounds fired outside his Bandra residence in April 2024 by two men on a motorcycle
- Gulshan Kumar — T-Series founder murdered in 1997
Gulshan Kumar Murder: The 1997 Attack That Shook Bollywood
The targeting of film personalities goes back decades. T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar was murdered in 1997, a case that remains one of the most talked-about attacks on a Bollywood figure. His killing showed that even the most successful names in the music and film business could be targets of violence.
The recent shootings, however, appear different in nature. The February attack on Rohit Shetty's home was claimed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. A US indictment also alleges that Bishnoi ran a crime syndicate — a detail that links the shootings to organised crime rather than personal disputes.
Our Take: Bollywood Security Needs a Serious Answer
In our view, the shooting at Tiger Shroff is a warning that cannot be ignored. Three rounds fired at a public figure in Juhu — the same area where Rohit Shetty's home was shot at — shows that the people behind these attacks are becoming bolder.
To put it plainly, the pattern is clear: from Gulshan Kumar in 1997 to Salman Khan in April 2024, from Rohit Shetty in February this year to Tiger Shroff now, Bollywood figures keep getting targeted. The fact that Shroff escaped unhurt is luck, not proof that the system is working.
What readers should take away is this — the safety of film celebrities in Mumbai is now a real public issue. When a gang can claim responsibility for firing at a filmmaker's home and similar incidents keep repeating, the response cannot be limited to adding security guards. The police and the state need to break the network behind these attacks, not just react after every shooting.
Until that happens, every new incident will only add another name to a list that already includes some of the biggest names in Indian cinema.
