The Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district has been suspended due to the monsoon season, officials announced. The decision was made to protect pilgrims from the increased risk of landslides and other weather-related dangers.
Why the Yatra Was Suspended
According to The Economic Times, Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashish Joshi confirmed that the suspension is in view of the monsoon, the risk of landslides, and the safety of pilgrims. The yatra, which began on May 1, saw a large number of visitors before the suspension.
Number of Pilgrims and Permit Details
SDM Joshi stated that 52,441 pilgrims visited Adi Kailash and Om Parvat within two months of the pilgrimage's commencement. The last batch of 103 pilgrims was issued permits on July 1 before the suspension took effect. "Inner Line Permits for the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra will now be issued only after further orders," Joshi said, as reported by News Arena India.
Our Take: Safety First in Monsoon Season
This suspension is a sensible and necessary step. The monsoon season in Uttarakhand often brings heavy rains that trigger landslides, making mountain trails extremely dangerous. By halting the yatra, authorities are putting the lives of thousands of pilgrims above all else. While the suspension may disappoint those planning to visit, it is far better to delay a journey than to risk a tragedy. We hope the yatra resumes safely once the weather improves.
