A 36-year-old man from Gurugram has been arrested after a violent brawl on Mussoorie’s Mall Road. The clash left two people injured, including a woman who tried to step in and stop the fight.
The accused, Neeraj Raghav, a resident of Sikanderpur in Gurugram, was taken into custody by Mussoorie Police after the incident on the night of June 28. According to police, Raghav was produced before the Executive Magistrate after a medical examination. He was arrested under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for disturbing public order.
Police said four tourists from Gurugram arrived in Mussoorie in a Toyota Innova Hycross between 10 pm and 11 pm. The clash happened near the Bata showroom on Mall Road. The accused allegedly picked up an empty plastic milk crate and attacked locals, leading to the injuries.
The woman who was injured had tried to intervene in the brawl. The other injured person was a local resident. Both were hurt during the confrontation.
Police also issued a challan for the tourist vehicle under the Motor Vehicles Act. The Toyota Innova Hycross used by the group was penalized as part of the legal proceedings.
The arrest followed a violent clash between the tourists and local residents on Mall Road. The incident has drawn attention to tourist behavior in the popular hill station.
This incident is a clear case of a tourist crossing the line. Visiting a peaceful hill station and then attacking locals — including a woman who tried to stop the violence — is unacceptable. The police acted quickly, and that is the right response. In our view, such behavior should face strict consequences to send a message that public order will not be disturbed, no matter who the visitor is. Mussoorie is a place for families and tourists to enjoy, not a place for brawls.
The arrest under BNSS Section 170 and the vehicle challan show that authorities are taking this seriously. We hope this serves as a warning to others who might think they can act without responsibility while on vacation.
