A search operation is underway in the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) canal after a polytechnic lecturer is feared to have drowned two days ago. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is leading the effort with support from the district administration.
District Administration Steps In to Assist Search
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varsha Khangwal visited the Matanhail area on Monday to review the situation. She issued necessary directions to the officials involved in the rescue operation to ensure the search is carried out effectively.
According to The Tribune, the DC also interacted with the family of the missing lecturer. She assured them that the administration was standing with them during this difficult time and that all possible efforts were being made to locate the youth.
Water Level Reduction Ordered to Speed Up Search
To make the search operation more effective, the administration has taken a key step. "Directions have been issued to the concerned departments to reduce the water level in the canal to speed up the search operation," the DC stated. The report notes that this measure is intended to help the SDRF teams cover more ground and locate the missing lecturer.
Our Take: A Race Against Time in the JLN Canal
This is a tragic situation for the family and the community. The quick response from the district administration, with the DC personally visiting the site and meeting the family, shows the seriousness with which this case is being treated. Reducing the water level is a practical and necessary step. In our view, the focus must remain on a swift and thorough search. The administration's assurance of support is important, but the priority now is to bring closure to the family as quickly as possible.
