Four Nihang Sikh pilgrims who were arrested in connection with the June 16 assault case at Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district received a hero's welcome at a gurdwara in Mohali after being granted bail.
According to The Tribune, the four pilgrims — Satvinder Singh, Ajay Singh, Jasanpreet Singh and Manpreet Singh — were welcomed with 'jaykaras' (religious slogans) by Nihang Sikh organisations at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana, Mohali.
The District and Sessions Judge in Gopeshwar granted bail to the four Nihang Sikhs. The case stems from an assault that took place in Karnaprayag, a town in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
As reported by The Tribune on X, the Akal Takht Jathedar called the bail a 'victory of ...' — highlighting the significance of the development for the Sikh community.
Manpreet Singh, one of the four pilgrims, had suffered a leg fracture during the June 16 clash. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Rishikesh and was later brought to Punjab by ambulance.
The other three pilgrims reached Gurdwara Paonta Sahib in Nahan by private vehicle before proceeding to Mohali. At Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, the four were welcomed and honoured by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Garga.
The rousing welcome at the Mohali gurdwara sends a strong signal. In our view, this is not just about four individuals returning home — it is about the community standing behind its members in a legal battle. The presence of the Akal Takht Jathedar at the welcome ceremony shows that this case has become a matter of collective importance for the Sikh community. While the legal process will continue, the reception at Sohana makes it clear where the community's support lies.
