Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey is set for a massive release in India. According to an exclusive report, the film will be shown on over 2,500 screens across the country. The advance booking, which opened more than a month before the release, has already created huge excitement among fans.
The Odyssey Advance Booking Numbers in India
Data accessed by Bollywood Hungama shows that the film has sold around 1.25 lakh tickets for the opening day. Out of these, 50,000 tickets were sold through PVR Inox and 12,000 through Cinepolis. For the entire weekend, nearly 2.50 lakh tickets have been sold so far.
PVR Inox also announced on social media that 1.2 lakh tickets of The Odyssey had been sold as of Monday night. The buzz around the film has been growing steadily, especially after Nolan, along with stars Tom Holland and Matt Damon, visited Mumbai recently.
IMAX Ticket Sales Cross 91,000 in India
A major highlight of the advance booking is the performance on IMAX screens. According to the report, 91,000 tickets have been sold across India's 34 IMAX screens. These sales have generated Rs. 9.5 crore in gross ticket revenue. The high demand for IMAX shows reflects the strong pull of Nolan's films among Indian audiences, who often prefer premium formats for his visually stunning work.
As reported by Bollywood Hungama on X, the film is aiming for an opening day collection of Rs. 20 crore. Given the advance booking numbers and the wide screen count, this target seems within reach.
What This Means for The Odyssey's Box Office Run
The decision to release The Odyssey on over 2,500 screens is a clear sign of the confidence that distributors have in the film. For comparison, most big Hollywood releases in India open on 1,000 to 1,500 screens. A 2,500+ screen release puts The Odyssey in the same league as the biggest Indian blockbusters.
The advance booking numbers also suggest that the film is not just attracting Nolan's loyal fan base but also a wider audience. The strong IMAX sales, in particular, show that people are willing to pay a premium to watch the film in the best possible format.
Our Take: A Strong Start for Nolan's Epic
In our view, the numbers coming in for The Odyssey are impressive but not surprising. Christopher Nolan has built a reputation in India as a director whose films demand to be seen on the big screen. The Mumbai visit by the cast and crew only added to the hype.
However, the real test will be the word-of-mouth after the opening weekend. While advance bookings are strong, the film's long-term success will depend on whether it delivers on the expectations. For now, the Rs. 20 crore opening day target looks achievable, and if the film gets good reviews, it could end up being one of the biggest Hollywood openers in India this year.
