Amritsar, June 12: Heavy damage was reported in several areas of the North Assembly constituency following a severe storm that struck on Wednesday evening. Trees were uprooted at multiple locations, while electricity poles were also damaged, disrupting power supply in many areas. The prolonged power outage led to a shortage of drinking water, leaving residents struggling for access to water since last evening.
Upon receiving information about the situation, BJP leader Akshay Sharma from the North constituency reached the affected areas along with his team and provided relief to the residents by arranging drinking water supplies. He stated that the service of providing drinking water to those in need would continue until electricity supply is fully restored.
Akshay Sharma said that the severe storm that hit the area was a natural disaster that caused damage at several places. However, despite this, power supply had not been restored even by this evening, forcing people to suffer due to the lack of drinking water. He termed this a failure of the state government and said that providing basic amenities to the public is the government's responsibility.
He further stated that the Aam Aadmi Party had made several promises before coming to power, but the government has failed even in providing basic facilities to the people. He added that in this era of advanced technology, the unavailability of essential services such as electricity and water throughout the day is a matter of serious concern.
Akshay Sharma also said that the condition of roads in the state remains poor, while people are not getting better educational and employment opportunities. At the same time, the problem of drug abuse is increasing day by day, whereas the government appears to be focused only on advertisements. He emphasized that the government needs to work seriously on issues concerning public welfare.
