The Congress party has stepped up its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over education, unemployment, and examination-related issues. This move builds on the momentum generated by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with students in Rajasthan’s Kota on 17 June. The party is now preparing to take its youth outreach campaign to other parts of the country.
Congress Accuses Modi Government of Failing on Education
In a media briefing, National Students' Union of India in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar accused the Modi government of failing to address repeated examination paper leaks. He claimed that the government has turned education into a "product."
According to National Herald, Kumar alleged, "Today, there's no exam whose paper isn't being leaked." He claimed that even examinations such as the UPSC were now facing questions over their integrity.
Demand for Strict Action Against Paper Leaks
The Congress leader demanded strict action against those responsible for the paper leaks. The party is linking the issues of paper leaks, unemployment, and unequal access to learning as part of its broader offensive against the BJP.
As reported by National Herald, the Congress is building on Rahul Gandhi's Kota outreach with a fresh education offensive, which the party has named "Chhatron Ki Goonj" (Students' Voice).
Our Take: A Strategic Push for Youth Votes
In our view, this offensive is a clear attempt by the Congress to tap into growing student frustration over education and job issues. By focusing on paper leaks and unemployment, the party is addressing concerns that directly affect young voters. The timing, building on Rahul Gandhi's Kota visit, suggests a coordinated strategy to regain relevance among the youth. Whether this translates into electoral gains remains to be seen, but it does put pressure on the BJP to respond on these critical issues.
